The details..

The Science of Self Defence by Edmund Price is an extensive treatise on sparring, wrestling, outdoor sports and gymnastic exercises. Written in 1867, this work aims to provide readers with a reliable manual on how best to protect oneself through knowledge of self defence techniques.

Price draws upon history to demonstrate that these activities have been beneficial for people since ancient times; from Greek festivals where statesmen competed against each other in throwing discus or javelin, running or boxing - all contributing towards making Rome 'the mistress of the world'.

He argues that wise physical exercise can bring about harmony between mind and body which leads not only to good health but also mental clarity. He warns against neglecting one's physical resources due to overanxiety for intellectual pursuits which can lead ultimately lead to suffering and premature death.

In conclusion he encourages everyone - even those who do not approve of Prize Ring fighting -to acquire a scientific understandingof self defence simply as means for preservationand protection.
